YCI Presents: Climate Action Summit

Join YCI’s Climate Action Summit to learn about youth climate leadership in the Greater Toronto Area and opportunities to get involved!

About this event

Youth Challenge International’s Climate Action Summit brings together leaders from government, business and local organizations to celebrate and elevate climate action across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA), including the work of YCI’s own Climate Action Catalysts. These young leaders have designed and delivered climate action projects rooted in community well-being through YCI’s Innovate MY Future program.

The Climate Action Summit, hosted on Gather, will celebrate their impact, inspire continued civic engagement and convene leaders from across different industries and backgrounds.

This event includes:

Keynote presentation from Catherine Abreu, an internationally recognized, award-winning campaigner whose work centres on building powerful coalitions to advance action on climate change. She was named one of the world’s 100 most influential people in climate policy by Apolitical in 2019.

Workshop: “Understanding Policy & Advocating for Change”. Build your policy analysis and advocacy muscles with the goal of supporting more impactful policy changes and program development. This workshop will be led by Samiera Zafar of Save the Children and Christina Nguyen of McMaster University.

Panel: “Upstreaming Youth Ideas”. Youth are driving climate action, innovation and resilience in communities and professional industries everywhere! Weaving their ideas into municipal programs and policy is critical to securing the future well-being of our communities. What does successful upstreaming look like, who needs to be involved and how can we make sure it is done right? Join panelists Emmay Mah of the Toronto Environmental Alliance (TEA), Myles O’Brien of the City of Richmond Hill and Alyssa Offenheim of the Ontario Public Service for this important discussion.

Climate Action Catalyst Showcase. A celebration and showcase of the inspiring climate action projects created by young people across the Greater Toronto Hamilton Area in YCI’s Innovate MY Future program.

Opportunities Room. A networking space for current and future climate leaders to mix and mingle, learn about opportunities and get involved in local climate action.
