About the Lecture
The Doughnut of social and planetary boundaries envisions a world that meets the needs of all people within the means of the living planet. What would this mean for Toronto and how could we get there? Don’t miss this compelling talk with Kate Raworth, economist and author of Doughnut Economics, and Councillor Mike Layton, City of Toronto, to explore the opportunities and challenges of putting new economic thinking into practice in our own city. About the Speakers
Kate Raworth is an economist focused on making economics fit for the 21st century. Her book Doughnut Economics: seven ways to think like a 21st century economist is an international bestseller that has been translated into 20 languages, and was long-listed for the 2017 Financial Times & McKinsey Business Book of the Year award. She is co-founder of Doughnut Economics Action Lab, working with cities, business, communities, governments and educators to turn Doughnut Economics from a radical idea into transformative action. She teaches at Oxford University’s Environmental Change Institute and is Professor of Practice at Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences.
Mike Layton is City Councillor for Ward 11, University-Rosedale and has worked tirelessly to protect and improve City services that people depend on. He has been a strong voice on City Council to make Toronto a world leader in the fight against climate change. He has also championed building new affordable housing, investments in arts and culture, Indigenous reconciliation and justice, and better public transit and cycling infrastructure.
