Opportunities for Large-Scale Climate Action

Opportunities for Large-Scale Climate Action

The primary focus of this event is to create awareness of the opportunities for large-scale climate action and encourage collaboration to implement this action. Prior to our event, we invite everyone to view the four related videos we created, which are shown on this webpage:

Webpage: Climate Change: What Can Be Done? Opportunities for Large-Scale Climate Action

We will begin our event with a brief discussion about the latest news about rising greenhouse gas levels and why the UN is stating that countries “must start curbing emissions immediately“. Then we will discuss selected significant climate solutions that can be implemented on a large scale. This will include renewable energy with energy storage, green hydrogen and hydrogen that can be extracted directly from the earth (Geologic Hydrogen) along with complementary technologies. To provide some background information about how the energy transition to a low-carbon economy can be accelerated with Geologic Hydrogen and complementary technologies, we produced this video:

Accelerating the Energy Transition with Geologic Hydrogen & Complementary Technologies:Leveraging AI, Drilling Technologies, Extraction, Renewable Energy, Energy Storage to Produce Reliable Electricity and Renewable Fuels

There is a very large opportunity in Canada to extract and utilize Geologic Hydrogen. To highlight the potential for extracting Geologic Hydrogen in Canada, Dr. Omid H. Ardakani, who is a Research Scientist at NRCan’s Geological Survey of Canada and the General Secretary for IEA’s Task 49: Natural Hydrogen, has been invited to speak about this topic. He and his team will soon be releasing a set of maps about Geologic Hydrogen opportunities in Canada.

Professor Bruno Pollet, who is based at the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières and is a member of the UN’s Council of Engineers for the Energy Transition (CEET) has been invited to highlight some key points from his recent research paper, Hydrogen economy: Paving the path to a sustainable, low-carbon future.

Dr. David Layzell, Research Director, Transition Accelerator has been invited to speak about effective and profitable ways to utilize hydrogen as well as additional large opportunities that he feels can help accelerate the energy transition to a low-carbon economy. He will also highlight his organization’s many valuable techno-economic reports. Then we will invite members of the audience to ask questions and how they may want to support the energy transition. This could include advocating for large-scale climate action and/or helping organizations obtain funding to enable increased climate action.

As the UN Secretary General said, “Our world needs climate action on all fronts — everything, everywhere, all at once”. To maximize cost-effectiveness and impact, innovative technologies can and should be combined. For example, shown below is a schematic illustrating a combination of wind farms, solar farms, energy storage and electricity generation from Geologic Hydrogen that can provide reliable power, which can be implemented in many places in the world.
