Online Advocacy Training for Climate Action
The City of Toronto’s 2021 budget will be released on Jan 14th, with deputations on the 25th and 26th. You can speak in person or submit a letter. Many of the climate emergency initiatives have been stalled due to COVID-19, so it’s really important to raise our voices for this budget!

Presenters:
Lyn Adamson, Co-Chair of ClimateFast will host and provide tips on making a deputation to City Council.
Michael Polanyi, Climate Campaigner Toronto Environmental AllianceMichael is an experienced campaigner with a background in research, public policy and community organizing. Michael will provide an overview of budget issues.
Mike Layton, City Councillor for Ward 11, University-Rosedale.Mike has been a strong voice on City Council for action against climate change. He has also championed building new affordable housing, Indigenous issues and reconciliation, and better public transit and cycling infrastructure. Mike will offer his budget analysis and what we could push for in our deputations.
Sharon Howarth is an experienced campaigner for climate action and will provide tips for meeting with your councillor.
Cheryl McNamara, Media Relations Coordinator, Kairos CanadaCheryl is a playwright and activist for a just transition to a clean energy-powered world. Cheryl has 20 years experience in communications management and has worked for national and grassroots organizations. She is will share tips for writing effective letters to the editor.
We will offer small group breakouts for the last 30 minutes to prep your deputation, practice how to meet with your councillor – or an MP – and how to write a letter to the editor.
