How the Physical and Financial Grids Should Shape Your Energy Strategy: A Practical Framework for Evaluating Energy Plans

Every energy plan must work across two connected systems. The physical grid determines what electricity can be generated and delivered. The financial grid influences what gets built, how electricity is bought and sold, who pays, and what customers ultimately face. Matt Haupt will use a practical example to show how energy strategies can break down when physical constraints are not evaluated alongside financial, market, and regulatory assumptions. He and Edward Saltzberg will then discuss lessons from Matt’s experience directing energy strategy across more than 70 Navy installations. The program draws from Matt’s live SSF course, Understanding Electricity Markets. Audience questions are encouraged.
