GNN’s Cherry Beach Plant-pull and Picnic
☀️Hey green neighbours, let’s make the most of summer, together! Join GNN and Toronto Nature Stewards for a fun afternoon at Cherry Beach on Friday, August 25th, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm. We’ll have a plant ID workshop, help with sand dune stewardship, then enjoy a picnic and swim!

Important Details:
Rain date: Monday afternoon, August 28
Equipment: Provided by TNS (Toronto Nature Stewards), includes gloves, spades, garbage bags
Safety: TNS leads have first aid kits for minor scrapes, if any (unlikely). TNS leads will pick up sharps, if any (unlikely). Optional swimming after the event will be at a designated swimming area with life guards.
Before the event: On your phone please download Seek (free, for kids, easy) or iNaturalist (inexpensive, for adults, better). We’ll show you how to identify plants.
Clothing: Despite the warm weather, please wear long sleeves, long pants, long socks, sneakers, to protect from biting insects and irritating plants.
Physical demands: Equal to gardening. We’ll be off trail on uneven ground. (If you need accommodation, another activity can be provided, but tell us in advance.)
After the event: If you want the optional half hour swim and picnic, bring swimwear, water shoes, a drink and food. There is a change room, life guards, food truck.
Location: 1 Cherry Street, 2-5 pm. Optional swim/picnic to 5:00pm. TTC bus 202 drops you at 1 Cherry Street. Also the Martin Goodman bike trail goes right there. The map shows the parking lot (blue), change room room and swimming area (yellow). We’ll be in the dunes (green). Text if you get lost, (416)778-0054.
