Decolonizing Social Innovation Gathering At Wasan Island

We are honored to invite you to the 2023 Decolonizing Social Innovation Gathering at Wasan Island, a transformative experience framed as “Dialogues of Wisdoms,” where Jodi Calahoo Stonehouse and Maryam Mohiuddin Ahmed bring insights and frameworks from a diverse tapestry of Traditional and Indigenous wisdoms. Join us September 18-22 in this sacred space to unearth profound knowledge, reflection, and the honing of purpose and practice, rooted in the essence of ancient wisdoms.

In this unique gathering, “Dialogues of Wisdoms,” the core focus on decolonizing social innovation is interwoven with the profound wisdom of Indigenous cultures and the spiritual essence of various traditional faith systems. We believe that through these dialogues, we can address the legacy of colonization with profound understanding, compassion, and interconnectedness.

Throughout the gathering, we will honor the ancestral knowledge of the land, acknowledging the stewardship of Indigenous communities and the importance of preserving and revitalizing diverse traditional cultures. Engaging in practices of deep reflection and meditation, we recognize that true change begins within ourselves, and by embracing humility, we become vessels of wisdom, compassion, and positive change for the world.

Together, we will delve into the teachings of Indigenous elders and various faith and cultural traditions, seeking knowledge that transcends time and space. This will be a transformative journey of inner growth, collective healing, and co-creating solutions that uplift and empower all beings, guided by the sacred traditions of Indigenous peoples and the timeless wisdoms of cultures and faiths from the Global South.

“Dialogues of Wisdoms” is designed for you if you seek to:

  • Deepen your leadership capacities by embracing the vast well of knowledge from Indigenous wisdoms and various traditional cultures, allowing you to navigate the complexities of our times through the lens of decolonizing social innovation.
  • Hone your capacity for engaging and navigating complexity and systems thinking, guided by the interconnectedness and harmony emphasized in diverse traditional philosophies.
  • Sit with the idea of “hospicing modernity|coloniality” (Andreotti, 2021) as it shows up in self|systems and let go of what does not serve us anymore in order to let come that which we can no longer live without.
  • Embrace embodiment and awareness practices grounded in the natural world, drawing from Indigenous wisdom to recognize and support emergence within ourselves, others, and wider systems.
  • Clarify your purpose and developmental path as a decolonizing systems change leader, guided by the principles of respect for all living beings and timeless wisdom handed down through generations.
  • Foster collaboration, intimacy, and perspective-taking across relationships of difference, learning from the age-old Indigenous principles of unity and interconnectedness, as well as the teachings of diverse traditional cultures on cooperation and mutual understanding.
