Beyond Carbon Pricing – CCL Canada Spring Rendezvous 2021
Since September 2010 we have been building the political will for evidence-based carbon pricing. As we are getting closer to our goal, the next step is to vision together how carbon pricing fits into the bigger picture of transitioning our economy.
There will be four sessions.
WELCOME AND LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT – 5 minutes
KEYNOTE – Darrin Qualman
National Farmers Union Director of Climate Crisis Policy & Action
BASIC INCOME PANEL (30 minutes)
Basic income can provide security as we transition our economy.
Panelists: Robin Boadway PhD, economist Queen’s University and Jessie Gollem, Basic Income Activist
Moderator: Caterina Lindman
PAYING FOR THE TRANSITION (10 minutes)
Canada has not had tax reform in 50 years. We will do a quick review of the state of play and then launch a CCL Canada action team that will explore tax reform to pay for all the things we need and help get us some experts to present to us at our next 2021 National conference in the fall.
GET READY TO LOBBY FEDERALLY (75 MINUTES)
We will review our recommendations in the almost-final federal leave behind (because it is never final until we all sign-off) and then go into breakout rooms and design questions to ask our MPs and report back.
LOBBYING
From late May to the end of June but not past Labour Day please because things will start shifting to wildly in September to keep our lobbying asks relevant and we will be preparing for our next national event.
