What Is Actually Wrong With The American Grid?

The American electricity grid is two systems running at once. There is the financial system of markets, rates, capital approvals, and regulatory dockets. There is the physical system of generators, wires, transformers, and substations. The two are no longer keeping pace with the demand being placed on them, and that mismatch is showing up in rising bills, slipping reliability, multi-year back orders for basic equipment, and generation projects stuck in interconnection queues for years.

Hosted by George Washington University’s Alliance for a Sustainability Future and its Environmental and Energy Management Institute, this session looks at the mismatch between the financial and physical sides of the grid, what it means for the people and businesses on the other end of the meter, and where the panelists see practical paths to fixing it.
