CityTalk — “What We Heard: Solutions for the Improving the NHS”

The National Housing Strategy (NHS) is a 10-year, $70+ billion plan with targets to cut chronic homelessness in half, remove 530,000 households from housing need, invest in the construction of up to 160,000 new affordable homes, and repair and retain affordable housing.

To assess the successes and shortcomings of the NHS, the National Housing Council commissioned several research reports and engaged the Canadian Urban Institute to collect perspectives from stakeholders who work on affordable housing and homelessness.

Through a consultation process that included diverse representation across Canada, more than 200 organizations, experts and advocates shared their ideas and insights. A forthcoming report — What we Heard: Solutions for the Improving the NHS — summarizes the key observations and urgent suggestions for addressing core housing need, homelessness, and the needs of vulnerable population groups.

Join us for an in-depth conversation about housing precarity, policy gaps, and possible solutions for improving the National Housing Strategy.
