Walkable Communities and Sustainable Mobility for Canada
Communities need to put walking at the top of transportation hierarchy as a central element in a sustainable mobility future for Canada. Walkability advances most Sustainable Development Goals, not only environment and GHG reductions, and transit success, but also health, fitness, equity, social cohesion, cultural vibrancy and more. Community organizations need to be a knowledgeable and effective voice for local actions. The federal government has announced plans to develop a national active transportation strategy, and we all need to participate to ensure walkability gets the attention and support it deserves.
