SUMMARY:Big Tech Billionaires and the War for Minerals
DESCRIPTION:Your phone. America’s AI boom. Mines in DR-Congo, Zambia and Mozambique. What connects them?\nJoin Oxfam for a virtual briefing on Tuesday, October 27 at 12 p.m. ET.\nWe’ll link some of today’s biggest U.S. topics—AI, electric vehicles, batteries, and economic security—to the communities supplying the minerals behind them. You’ll hear directly from Oxfam experts Andrew Bogrand, Policy Lead for Human Rights and Natural Resource Justice, and Maria Ramos, Co-lead for Natural Resource Justice, on the global race for the minerals powering batteries, artificial intelligence, clean energy, and national security.\n \nWe will travel behind the technology to meet communities living at the start of the supply chain—and explore a critical question of our time: Who really stands to profit in this new commodity boom, and will the people whose land contains these resources share its benefits?\n
