DESCRIPTION:Making misleading claims that are deliberately calculated to scare people is the primary tool used by opponents of proportional representation.\nJoin us for a webinar to look at the common things opponents say against proportional representation, and get the facts about PR.\nIn this webinar, we’ll tackle topics including:\n* The influence of the far right in different voting systems\n* Fringe parties and the role of small parties in Parliament\n* How governments are formed\n* Government stability\n* How systems deliver local representation …and more!\nJoin us for a webinar with two guests:\nDennis Pilon is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Politics at York University and one of Canada’s preeminent experts on voting system reform. Over the past 30 years, Dennis has written numerous journal articles, newspaper articles, book chapters, and books, including “The Politics of Voting: Reforming Canada’s Electoral System” and “Wrestling with Democracy: Voting Systems as Politics in the Twentieth Century West”.\nIsabella O’Brien (Masters of Philosophy in Comparative Government, expected graduation August 2026) is a student at the University of Oxford. Her research interests include electoral systems and political parties. Isabella worked as a researcher at Vox Pop Labs in Canada, Australia Talks, and Polimeter.
