SUMMARY:Building Your Theory of Change
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCreating a Theory of Change\nA theory of change is far more than a methodological tool; it is a strategic and narrative compass that helps clarify why and how our actions contribute to lasting transformation. It invites us to make explicit the links between our intentions, our activities, and the changes we seek to bring about, while recognizing the complexity of the human and community contexts in which we work.\nThis interactive workshop offers step-by-step guidance to help you develop a theory of change tailored to your organization, initiative, or project. Through guided reflection, concrete examples, and collaborative exercises, you will explore the key elements that underpin a theory of change: community needs and aspirations, underlying assumptions, the conditions required for change, and short-, medium-, and long-term outcomes. You will learn how to articulate a clear vision of change that is grounded both in your values and in on-the-ground realities.\nThe workshop will also provide foundational learning to strengthen your understanding of evaluation and strategic planning. Together, we will explore the concept of a framework, the distinction between theoretical and conceptual frameworks, and the central role that theories of change play in shaping and communicating compelling stories of impact.\nThe workshop will be conducted in English; however, the slides will be bilingual, all activities will be prepared in English and French, and the presenter is also bilingual in English and French and would be happy to receive questions in either official language.\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWorkshop Pre-Learning\nAttend “Evaluation 101” or similar workshops on the basics of evaluation.\nPlease think about your organizational identity and values before this workshop.\nIf your organization or project has a theory of change, review it and come prepared to speak about it.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n3.5 Hour Virtual Workshop\nThis interactive workshop offers a comprehensive overview of the steps involved in creating a theory of change.\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1-Hour Coaching Session\nParticipate in discussions and exchanges with your peers on your specific evaluation needs.\nDiscover useful resources to help you continue learning and overcome some of the evaluation challenges you may encounter.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat will you learn?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDevelop a clear understanding of what a framework is and its role in the evaluation process, with a particular emphasis on theories of change.\nClarify and structure a vision of change by equipping participants to design a theory of change that is grounded in their values, contexts, and lived realities on the ground.\nSupport the creation of credible and compelling impact stories by coherently linking actions, outcomes, and intended transformations, in order to better communicate the value and effects of the work undertaken.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
