SUMMARY:Youth Climate Anxiety and Climate Action
DESCRIPTION:Youth Climate Anxiety and Climate Action\nJoin us for five powerful events focusing on the impact of climate change on youth. These events will dive into the growing concern of climate anxiety among young people and explore ways to take meaningful climate action.\nWith the support of a mental health therapist and a climate professional, the program is designed to help youth harness climate anxiety and work with it to take practical environmental action.\nThis five part program will provide action opportunities like tree planting and ‘seed bombing’, coupled with the opportunity to make societal change on a municipal and provincial level.\nRegistration is free but space is limited.\nFor ages 14-24\nLocation for all events is 10C Shared Space except for the tree planting at Norm Jary Park\nRegister for each of the events separately. Note that you have the option of registering as a guest, by creating an Eventbrite account or using your own Eventbrite account if you already have one.\n– Part 1 – Workshop – Understanding and Working with Climate Anxiety\nFriday September 20, 7:00pm – 9:00pm – 10C Shared Space\nThis workshop, kickstarting the project, will involve small and large group discussions surrounding how to cope with distress around the climate crisis. Participants will also make seed bombs, and learn tools for discussing climate anxiety and action with others in their lives.\n– Part 2 – Tree Planting\nSaturday Sept 28, 9:30am – 12:30pm – Location Norm Jary Park\nFor this event, participants will plant trees with the guidance of an experienced volunteer from external organisation Trees for Guelph. This will be an active, collaborative form of follow-up climate action.\n– Part 3 – Workshop\nMonday October 21, 7:00pm – 9:00pm – 10C Shared Space\nThis workshop, along with Part 4 and 5 workshops, will be follow-up meetings for those interested in the advocacy side of climate action. With the support of the mental health therapist and climate professional from the Part 1 workshop, the youth will plan practical activities for the coming months.\n– Part 4 – Workshop\nMonday November 4, 7:00pm – 9:00pm –10C Shared Space\nContinuation of workshop activities.\n– Part 5 Workshop\nMonday November 18, 7:00pm – 9:00pm – 10C Shared Space\nContinuation of workshop activities.\nFor more information click here\nThis program is supported by the Youth Climate Action Fund and eMERGE Guelph Sustainability\n
