SUMMARY:CALL June Learning Meeting – Biodiversity Conservation: Why does it matter? with Professor Ann Dale
DESCRIPTION:Join CALL on June 5th, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. ET to hear Professor Ann Dale address the critical topic of Biodiversity Conservation: Why does it matter? There is much discussion about the climate crisis. Biodiversity loss is linked and just as serious as there is no come back from extinction! But why is biodiversity so important to humanity and what can we do to halt and then reverse its loss?\nOur featured speaker, Professor Ann Dale, has led a major climate change adaptation and mitigation research project in British Columbia and is a co-investigator on four other SSHRC funded grants. Her newest research is exploring governance for a carbon neutral society. Join us when Professor Dale will talk about solutions, from those in our backyards, to nature-based ones, to policy changes by governments.\nBiographical Background:\nProfessor Ann Dale is a Professor in the School of Environment and Sustainability at Royal Roads University. She held her university’s first Canada Research Chair in sustainable community development (2004-2014), is a Trudeau Alumna, and a Fellow of the World Academy of Art and Sciences.\nShe is a recipient of the CUFA Paz Buttedahl Distinguished Career Academic Award (2014); the Canada Council for the Arts, Molson Prize for the Social Sciences (2013) and the 2009 Bissett Award for Distinctive Contributions to the Public Sector. Her book, At the Edge: Sustainable Development in the 21st Century, received the 2001 Policy Research Initiative Award for Outstanding Research Contribution to Public Policy. Her most recent book, entitled “Edging Forward: Achieving Sustainable Community Development” was released in February 2018.\n
