SUMMARY:Climate Change Focused Reports From Canadas Commissioner of the Environment & Sustainable Development
DESCRIPTION: \nSustainability Network welcomes back Canada’s Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development (CESD) to discuss five climate change-focused reports tabled in Parliament in the spring of 2022.Commissioner Jerry V. DeMarco and Principals David Normand, Kimberley Leach, and Philippe Le Goff from the Office of the Auditor General of Canada will join us to discuss the issues covered by these five recent CESD reports:\nJust Transition to a Low-Carbon Economy: This audit focused on whether Natural Resources Canada, working with Employment and Social Development Canada and partners, had prepared to support workers and their communities for a just transition to a low‑carbon economy.\nHydrogen’s Potential to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions: This audit focused on whether Environment and Climate Change Canada and Natural Resources Canada comprehensively assessed the role that hydrogen should play as a pathway to reach Canada’s climate commitments.\nFunding Climate-Ready Infrastructure—Infrastructure Canada: This audit focused on whether Infrastructure Canada designed and implemented a climate lens approach to designated projects under selected funding programs, and whether investments under these programs contributed to more resilient and inclusive, and less carbon‑intensive infrastructure investments.\nCarbon Pricing—Environment and Climate Change Canada: This audit focused on whether Environment and Climate Change Canada ensured that carbon pricing systems in Canada were applied effectively, fairly, and transparently.\nGreening Government Strategy: This audit focused on whether the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat led the Greening Government Strategy in a manner that supported the federal government’s progress toward reducing its greenhouse gas emissions.\nThe webinar will highlight learnings from these CESD reports and provide an opportunity for questions.\n \nRegistration is FREE for this event and will be hosted through Zoom Webinar. Please note, all participants will receive a confirmation email from Zoom with a link to join.\nAll registrants will be provided with a link to the recording and the presentation slides following the workshop.\n
