This webinar will focus on marine protected areas and the current state of the Gulf of Saint-Lawrence.\nThe state of our oceans is concerning, to say the least. They are subject to cumulative impacts from pollution, noise, climate change, overfishing, and more. One of the solutions in our toolbox to help restore the health of marine ecosystems are marine protected areas (MPAs). In this presentation, SNAP Québec will discuss the history, benefits and types of MPAs, as well as the necessity and urgency of creating an effective MPA network covering at least 30% of Gulf of St. Lawrence.\nWhen: June 16th, 2022 – 1 p.m. EST (10 a.m. PST / 11 a.m. MST / 12 p.m. CST / 2 p.m. AST) \nYour zoom link will be provided upon registration. We welcome you to sign up even if you are unable to attend, a link to the recording posted online will be sent to registrants the week after the event.\n\nVéronique Bussières – Manager of Biocultural and Marine Conservation, SNAP Québec\nVéronique is the Manager of Biocultural and Marine Conservation at the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society—Québec chapter (SNAP Québec). As an expert in Indigenous-led conservation, Véronique has been working in the field of coastal and marine conservation for almost 20 years, especially on the creation of marine protected areas. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, a master’s degree in Public Policy, Public Administration and Geography, and is currently finishing a Doctoral thesis on the governance of protected areas in coastal Indigenous contexts.\n\nJoignez-vous à nous pour le premier événement de notre nouvelle série de webinaires dédiés à la conservation de l’océan. Experte en conservation dirigée par les Autochtones, Véronique travaille dans le domaine de la conservation côtière et marine depuis près de 20 ans, notamment sur la création d’aires marines protégées. Elle est titulaire d’un baccalauréat en biologie, d’une maîtrise en politiques publiques, administration publique et géographie, et termine présentement une thèse de doctorat sur la gouvernance des aires protégées dans les contextes autochtones côtiers.\n
