DESCRIPTION:April 26 from 3:00-4:30 PM EST and April 28 from 3:00-4:30 PM EST\nCost $40\nSession 1: Maximize Advocacy and Minimize Admin: Ontario Election Rules for Nonprofits\nLed by Benjamin Miller of the ONN\nApril 26 from 3:00-4:30 PM EST\nOntario will be having a provincial election on June 2, 2022, and nonprofits have a lot to contribute to this conversation. In this workshop, you will learn about Ontario’s Election Finances Act which governs spending by nonprofits on election-related advertising. This presentation will focus on the strategies available to you to maximize your advocacy while minimizing administrative requirements. The presentation will have a clear focus on Ontario specifically and conclude with a brief setup of the subsequent session.\nYou will receive a link for a survey in the confirmation email. Please fill this out before the April 26th webinar\nSession 2: Finding Your lane: Nonprofit Election Advocacy Strategies\nLed by Candice Zhang of the ONN\nApril 28 from 3:00-4:30 PM EST\nThis election is a critical moment in time. We are emerging from a two-year global pandemic, facing historic levels of costs of living, and potentially heading into an economic recession. The pandemic has revealed how deeply inequities are entrenched into our current economic and social systems. As nonprofits, we need to engage in advocacy this election to make sure the next government has a vision and a plan to create an equitable post-pandemic Ontario.\nCandice will outline low-energy and resource limited advocacy strategies your nonprofit can engage in to make our voices heard. She will also discuss several examples of nonprofits who have successfully used these advocacy methods.\n \nRegistration for the series (2 webinars) is $40 and each session will be held on Zoom Meetings with cameras enabled and with all the interactivity we can muster (breakouts, polls, discussion). All registrants will be provided with a link to the recordings and the presentation slides following each session.\n\nBenjamin Miller\n\nBenjamin Miller (he/him) is a policy advisor at the Ontario Nonprofit Network and a staff lawyer on the Nonprofit Law Ontario project of Community Legal Education Ontario (CLEO) where he focuses on the legal needs of nonprofits and charities. Over the past 4 years at CLEO, Benjamin has answered hundreds of nonprofit law questions. Benjamin has also worked at the Canada Revenue Agency in the past. He has written on election law issues for the Philanthropist in the past. Benjamin holds a JD and MPP from the University of Toronto and an MA in political theory from the University of Ottawa.\n\nCandice Zhang\n\nCandice Zhang (she/her) is a policy advisor at the Ontario Nonprofit Network. Stemming from her passion for social change, public policy, and innovation, Candice has pursued various opportunities in policy analysis, research, and project management with a number of organizations. She has worked with diverse populations, including youths, LGBTQ2S communities, people living with HIV, as well as Canadians affected by income and housing inequalities. Candice holds a master’s degree in Global Health Policy from the University of Edinburgh, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Queen’s University.\n
