The core curriculum comes from Marshall Ganz, a Harvard professor who codified the relationship-building organizational framework they teach. The fundamentals of community organizing focuses on five key leadership practices: telling stories, building relationships, structuring teams, strategizing, and acting.\nJoin us for the following two webinars on Effective Lobbying and Deep Canvassing, both presented by Olivia Chow and the Institute for Change Leaders.\nEffectively Lobbying your Elected Representatives\nMarch 31 from 1:00-2:00 PM EST\nJoin us to learn:\n\nThe difference between strategy and tactics.\nHow to challenge the belief that knowledge equals action.\nWays to track down power.\nClarify the goal you want to accomplish in your lobbying efforts.\nContact your MPP or MLA (or other elected representatives) to get a response and a meeting.\nPrep for the meeting, who and what to bring. Define what is an effective “ask”.\nConduct the meeting and follow up.\n\nDeep Canvassing Webinar\nApril 7 from 1:00-2:00 PM EST\nJoin us to learn:\n\nThe difference between traditional and deep canvassing.\nThe best practices when it comes to canvassing, especially around an issue during an election.\nDeep canvases are candid, two-way conversations where you ask people to share their relevant, emotionally significant experiences and reflect on them aloud.\nIn 2020 in the American election, 37,000 volunteers held more than 290,000 phone conversations in swing states and Georgia. These canvassers moved voters by more than 48 percent. In Georgia, the persuasion rate was more than 58 percent.\n\n \nRegistration for the series (2 webinars) is $50 and each session will be held on Zoom Meetings with cameras enabled and with all the interactivity we can muster (breakouts, polls, discussion). All registrants will be provided with link to the recordings and the presentation slides.\n\nOlivia Chow\n\n \nFor over thirty years, Olivia Chow has been an effective and well-known public figure, serving in Toronto’s municipal politics and on the national stage as a Canadian Member of Parliament. In 2015, Olivia Chow established the Institute for Change Leaders at X (Ryerson) University. Since then, Olivia and her team of 40+ trainers have taught community and political organizing to over 8000 organizers.\nOlivia Chow has thirteen years of teaching experience and two certificates from Harvard Kennedy School Executive Education. She is the author of the best selling memoir “My Journey”.\n
