SUMMARY:ENV4001 Seminar: Environment Public Health Practice with Sally Radisic
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\nWhen and Where\n\n\n\nWednesday, March 02, 2022 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\nSally Radisic, PhD\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDescription\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Seminar\nEnvironmental health is a field of public health focusing on physical, chemical, biological, social, and psychosocial environmental factors impacting the environment and human health. Environmental public health interventions are implemented to control and prevent health hazards and promote health and well-being in the population.\nLocal public health units in Ontario are responsible for planning, delivering, managing, and evaluating public health programs and services such as healthy environments and safe water to ensure the needs of the population are met within the local context.\nConsistent with the population health approach, public health programs and services place emphasis on the social determinants of health, healthy behaviours, healthy communities and population health assessment. This presentation aims to provide insight into the application of theory and research in environmental public health practice at the local level. By the end of this session you will be able to:\n• Define how environment is a determinant of health\n• Understand the difference between health equality and health equity\n• Describe upstream and downstream environmental public health approaches\n \nAbout the Speaker\nSally Radisic, PhD is an Environmental Public Health Specialist with extensive experience working in the Public Health Sector. Sally holds faculty posts in the Division of Occupational and Environmental Health at the University of Toronto’s Dalla Lana School of Public Health and in the Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence and Impact at McMaster University. Sally’s work is devoted to applying an equity lens in environmental health and developing population health interventions that address health disparities. She is the author of publications focusing on air quality and health that aim to bridge the research-practice gap in public health and support the application of Evidence-Informed Decision Making in public health practice. Over the years, Sally has had the opportunity to work collaboratively with multi-stakeholder groups including academia, industry, government, and local citizens on various environmental health issues.\n \nRegister here.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nContact Information\n\nPeter Aitken\nevents.environment@utoronto.ca ( mailto:events.environment@utoronto.ca )\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n
