SUMMARY:SCIENCE FOR PEACE – Student Against Nuclear Weapons: A Virtual Forum
DESCRIPTION:The forum focuses on the humanitarian implications of the renewed nuclear-arms race and the potential of the United Nations’ Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons to build a world free of the menace of nuclear war. Elizabeth May and Ray Acheson are the keynote speakers.\nElizabeth May served as leader of the Green Party and is currently a Member of Parliament. As an environmentalist, writer, activist, and lawyer, Ms May advocates for social justice, the environment, and human rights.\nRay Acheson is an author and advocate for the abolition of nuclear weapons. The author of Banning the Bomb, Smashing the Patriarchy, Acheson is a leader in the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, which was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2017 for its work in pressing for the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.\nThis forum is a student-led initiative advised by activists working on nuclear weapons issues at Science for Peace and Canadian Voice of Women for Peace. The forum is interactive, with opportunities for audience participation.\nIf you are a university student, please join in and share your views on the development and promotion of this forum and the potential student organization.
