DESCRIPTION:Indigenous Perspectives on Climate Action: #1, Community Solutions\nThe first of a four-part webinar series in which Indigenous climate action leaders in BC share their thoughts and experience, hosted by the West Coast Climate Action Network and RAVEN .\nWith guest presenters:\nPansy Wright-Simms, a member of the Luutkudziiwus, a traditional “wilp,” or house group, of the Gitxsan Nation. Gaypaygw’m Ganauu Pansy Wright-Simms is the spokeswomen for Simogyet Luudkudziiwus, Charlie Wright; of the Gitxsan Nation. She is a volunteer teacher of Gitxsan song, dance, and drumming within the communities surrounding the nation, including at her traditional territories of MadiiLii. She is immersed in her Gitxsan culture and strives to be the voice of those who would not otherwise be heard. She is the Education Administrator for the office of Gitanmaax. She currently serves as a Board of director for the First Nations Education Steering Committee Society, First Nations Schools Association, and the Gitxsan Wet’suwet’en Education Society, and the BC Games Society.\nLeona Humchitt, Councillor, and Climate Action Coordinator, Heiltsuk Nation. Leona is a proud member of the Heiltsuk First Nation of Bella Bella, B.C. a remote, isolated community located in the central coast of British Columbia. In 2014, she was elected to the local Heiltsuk Tribal Council. Leona is currently taking SFU’s Executive Master of Business Administration tailored for Indigenous Business and Leadership. She a proud mother to five children and grandmother to four grand children – her precious treasures. In Leona’s words: “It’s a whole new level of love and makes her work in leadership that much more meaningful”.\n
