SUMMARY:Random Acts of Green: Intersectional Environmentalism
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\nJoin us as we work to provide an introductory presentation about the intersections between race, culture, and the environment.\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\nDescription:\nRandom Acts of Green Presents: Intersectional Environmentalism 101\nThis webinar invites attendees for an introductory presentation about the intersections between race, culture, and the environment.\nTogether we will be exploring some of the barriers faced by Black, Indigenous, people of colour, LGBTQ2+ community, Eco-Ableism and socio-economic factors within the context of the contemporary western environmental movement.\n \nThe event is intended to educate and raise awareness about the need for a diverse and inclusive approach to climate action to ensure that all voices are welcomed, honoured, and involved in the call for more sustainable lifestyles.\nRandom Acts of Green would like to start the conversation with members in our community about the need to create space in the environmental movement for minority groups. We recognize that minority groups are often disproportionately exposed to environmental hazards – yet are often left out of important discussions.\nLearning Outcomes:\n· Become familiar with the term Intersectional Environmentalism and its importance in tackling environmental problems\n· Be able to identify flaws and barriers in communications that make sustainable action difficult for some groups\n· Be able to recognize and seek out opportunities for the design of more inclusive messaging and approaches for encouraging climate action through ally-ship\nKey Questions:\n· How can we create a more diverse and inclusive approach to encouraging collective climate action?\n· How can we create space for minority groups in the climate action landscape by amplifying their voices?\n· How can we truly be allies to minority groups?\n· How can we have more meaningful discussions about the intersections between race, culture and the environment that bring about real change?\n\nAbout Random Acts of Green:\nRandom Acts of Green is a social enterprise with a vision to build a glocal (global + local) climate action community where everyone is empowered to take action together and promote environmental sustainability.\nOur mission is to prove that we can all make changes that add up to make a big collective impact. With our out-of-the-box toolbox of actions you can take, our social media networks, memberships, website, app, and blog, we work to build a future where our shared home is protected.\n\n\n\n
