DESCRIPTION:\nPanel One: The Bay of Fundy:\nNatural Wonder or Nuclear Industry Test Site?\nFree • Registration is required.\nhttps://raven-research.org/April-webinars\nOrganized by the RAVEN project at the University of New Brunswick\nThis event date is the 35th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster.\nThe Bay of Fundy is one of the 7 Natural Wonders of North America, one of the richest marine ecosystems on the planet and feeding ground for millions of migratory birds.\nThe governments of Canada and New Brunswick have funded two start-up companies to develop experimental nuclear projects beside the Bay of Fundy on the site of the Point Lepreau CANDU nuclear reactor.\nCanadian regulatory agencies have no experience with these technologies and experts have raised many safety concerns. After nuclear industry lobbying, the Canadian government exempted these projects from a federal environmental impact assessment.\nPoint Lepreau is located on the shared traditional and unceded territories of the Peskotomuhkati and Wolastoq Nations.\nThe panel features Indigenous leaders and academic and medical experts as presenters followed by Q&A with registrants.\nPanel One:\nDr. Susan O’Donnell, University of New Brunswick\nIntroduction • moderator\nChief Hugh Akagi, Peskotomuhkati Nation\nThe Bay of Fundy and Peskotomuhkati peoples\nDr. Gordon Edwards, Canadian Coalition for Nuclear Responsibility\nThe Point Lepreau reactor vs. the experimental reactors for the Bay of Fundy site\nDr. Dale Dewar, Former Executive Director, Physicians for Global Survival\nChernobyl: What we learned about the health impacts from a nuclear disaster\nFree • Registration is required.\nhttps://raven-research.org/April-webinars\nOrganized by the RAVEN project at the University of New Brunswick\n\n
