SUMMARY:Time4Action Green Jobs, Just Transition
DESCRIPTION:The stone age didn’t end because we ran out of stones.  We haven’t run out of oil, gas, and coal either, but it’s time to move to cleaner, greener technologies.  Fossil-fuel emissions are by far the main cause of the climate crisis.\nBut what happens to the fossil-fuel workers?  And their communities?  We know that Big Oil and its spokespeople like Jason Kenney will use workers’ fears to create a backlash to change.  Our guests this week will discuss the creation of green jobs and the need for a just transition with training and re-training for all those who need it.\nJim Stanford is a Canadian economist. He holds a Master’s degree in economics from Cambridge University and a Doctorate from the New School for Social Research.  In 2016 Stanford relocated to Australia, where he was the founding director of the Centre for the Future of Work, a left-wing research organisation.  He is now the Director of the Centre for Future Work here in Canada.\nHadrian Mertins-Kirkwood is a senior researcher at the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives.  His work focuses on the social and economic dimensions of Canada’s shift toward a zero-carbon economy.  He is also a contributor to the CCPA’s Alternative Federal Budget.  He holds an MA in Political Economy from Carleton University and a BA in Communications from Western University.\n
