SUMMARY:Food for the Future: A Discussion on Environment and Food
DESCRIPTION:Every day several times per day we choose what to eat. Have you ever wondered how the food you eat (or throw away) impacts the environment?\nFood and the environment are intertwined. How we produce, move, and dispose of food can have environmental impacts like greenhouse gas emissions or the ability to build soil health. On the other hand, climate change is impacting how we hunt, fish, gather and produce food through changes in temperatures on both land and water, and increasingly intense weather patterns.\nJoin our panelists for a discussion on food, agriculture, and climate change to learn more about your food and the environment.\nSpeakers: \nStuart Cumner – Neighbours for the Planet\nStuart Cumner has been a Science and Biology teacher for close to 40 years. He is a member of Neighbours for the Planet, Markham’s Environmental Advisory Committee, Drawdown Markham and Seeds to Saplings. \nAnna Tran – Food Fighters GTA\nAnna is the Team Lead of Food Fighters GTA, a student group working in collaboration with Youth Challenge International, the City of Vaughan, Mackenzie Health, and Sodexo Canada to reduce food waste in our communities and encourage greener practices in healthcare. She graduated from McMaster University with a BSc. in Life Sciences and currently works in clinical research, which has inspired her to combine her passions for sustainability and healthcare in designing a campaign with her team to improve food waste management in local hospitals around the Greater Toronto Area.\nSarah Rotz – Department of Social Science, York University\n \nMore information to come!\nStay connected and follow us on social media on platforms like Facebook (York Region Food Network) Twitter (@YRFoodNetwork) and Instagram (@yorkregionfoodnetwork ).\n
