People have physically distanced from one another, staying home from work, school and play. Families and colleagues have stopped gathering, connecting instead by video and phone. Businesses have closed, or dramatically shifted operations. Public services have been altered or discontinued, and demand for new forms of public support has exploded. The way we move through our cities has experienced the most significant change since the introduction of the automobile.\nIndeed, COVID-19 is the global crisis of our generation and has introduced great uncertainty in Canada’s cities. It is like a particle accelerator, sparking innovation at an uncharted pace while also deepening existing fault lines and inequities.\n\n\n\nOn June 19th Canadian Urban Institute will be leading a series of candid online conversations – across five time zones and from coast to coast – with political, business, community and academic leaders on what’s been working, what’s failed, and what needs to happen over the next 100 days in urban Canada.\nWe will also be releasing part one of a new CUI-led research initiative, COVID Signpost 100. This is not a manifesto. It is not a prescription of ideas claiming to solve every urban problem.
