SUMMARY:The Toronto Inuit Association presents Virtual Tiiturumaviit : Transferable Knowledge / Skills & the Environment with Kevin Tikivik
DESCRIPTION:\nPut on the kettle and join us for Virtual Tiiturumaviit! We are so excited to be joined by Kevin Tikivik to talk about Transferable Knowledge and Skills, and the Environment. This event will be open to everyone, on Friday June 12 at 3pm EDT on Zoom. Please register on the Eventbrite page, and download the Zoom app!\nKevin Tikivik will be sharing his knowledge from growing up in Nunavut, learning from his grandfather and elders, as well as spending time on the land south of Inuit Nunangat. He will take us on a virtual walk through the banks of the Ottawa River, on the traditional and unceded lands of the St. Lawrence Iroquoians, Anishinabewaki, Mohawk, Huron-Wendat, and the Omàmiwininiwak (Algonquin) peoples. Throughout this walk, he will share teachings about the Canadian Shield, through the lens of Inuktitut and English language, the seasons, territories and etiquette of the territory. This workshop will be a space for conversation about land and your relationship to it, as well as Inuit identity. Everyone is welcome to attend, and ask questions.\nIn an effort to keep urban Inuit connected during these times of social isolation, we have been hosting zoom hangouts with Toronto Inuit. They have expanded to include Inuit, Indigenous, and non Indigenous folks from across the country, so we thought, let’s invite everyone! Tiiturumaviit means, would you like some tea? and we are looking forward to virtually sharing tea with our vast Inuit community. Urban Inuit have so much to offer, so we will be highlighting the talents of Inuit across Canada in the coming weeks. We are grateful for the support of many Urban Inuit Organizations.\nTrigger warnings: While we cannot control or anticipate the direction of presentations, question and answer periods, and discussions, we know that some tough topics may come up, including loss of culture and language, colonization, and intergenerational trauma. To keep the space as safe for everyone as possible, we will supply a list of helplines that may prove helpful, during the workshop. Please also feel free to message us.\n\n\n\n
