SUMMARY:Sharing Our Cheques: Grassroots fundraising during Covid-19
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by SURJ Toronto and Resource Movement\nIn last month’s webinar, How white folks can take anti-racist action in COVID-19, we encouraged participants to give their money or time to a mutual aid effort – both to meet the emergency survival needs of those being most impacted by this crisis, and to build capacity for longer-term community organizing.\nThis workshop will offer some ways to put that advice into practice. We will share our analysis as to why resource redistribution is so important right now (including some inspiring mutual aid initiatives during COVID!); explore our relationship with money (giving it away, talking about it, asking for it); support folks to commit to redistributing resources by taking the #ShareMyCheque pledge; and build some skills and strategies for inviting your friends, families, and communities to join in too! We will work through some of the myths and fears that can get in the way of effectively moving money (your own or other people’s!), and offer participants the tools and courage they need to ask and give boldly in uncertain times!\nFacilitator bios\nChanelle (she/her) is based in Toronto/Tkaronto where she has been an activist, strategist and trainer in movements for sex workers rights and racial justice for nearly two decades.\nBrianna (she/her) is a Toronto/Tkaronto-based organizer, community builder and front line worker moving herself and others into action for racial justice, sex workers rights and anti poverty movements.\nBronwyn (they/them) is a Toronto/Tkaronto-based organizer with Resource Movement.\nCarly Boyce is a queer feelings-witch, organizer, and grassroots fundraiser, whose work focuses on body autonomy, interdependence, and resisting state violence.\nAccess info:\nThis workshop is taking place over Zoom, with options to participate by video/audio/chat as you are comfortable. There will be live captioning available. Please feel free to let us know about access needs in the registration form!\n
