SUMMARY:Economic (In)justice: Pandemic Profiteers and the Movements that Stop Them
DESCRIPTION:COVID-19 is not affecting us all equally. Like any crisis, it is hitting poor, working class, and systemically marginalized folks the hardest, and creating opportunities for the further consolidation of wealth and power among some members of the elite. But there are growing movements proposing big solutions.\nOn Wednesday, May 13th, Resource Movement and Briarpatch Magazine will co-host a webinar that helps to pull back the veil on who’s making a profit off the pandemic – and the movements working to stop them.\nThe speakers:\n\nSimran Dhunna, Climate Justice Peel\nThomas McKechnie, Justice for Foodora Couriers\nRicardo Tranjan, Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives\nRepresentative, ACORN Canada\nDave Gray-Donald, Resource Movement (Facilitator)\n\nAccessibility information:\nThe panel will be streamed via Zoom. We will be taking live notes during the webinar, which all will be able to access. We are not able to offer ASL interpretation for this event. The discussion will be in English; and questions will be taken in both French and English.\nAbout the hosts:\nResource Movement is an organization that mobilizes young people with access to wealth and/or privilege to work toward the equitable redistribution of land, wealth and power. We have over 200 active members and chapters in Montreal and Toronto. Resource Movement is a project of Tides Canada Initiatives.\nBriarpatch is an award-winning magazine of politics and culture. Fiercely independent and proudly polemical, Briarpatch offers original reporting, insight, and analysis from a grassroots perspective. As a reader-supported publication, Briarpatch is not just devoted to reporting on social movements – it’s committed to building them.\n
